Hello all. Happy Sunday. I've been under the weather going into this weekend, and we are traveling next week. So, I won't be posting. I hope you have a great week.

Hope you are feeling better, Dan! --al
ReplyDeleteThanks, al! A couple of years ago, I blogged about a problem I've had for over a decade with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It's gotten progressively better over the years, to the point that I thought maybe it was finally a thing of the past. Nope. I'm having a major flare and, in addition to feeling miserable, I can't string together two thoughts long enough to write a post. I actually thought about doing a post on whether and how people use DD to address health issues or promote good health, since I think I probably triggered this flare with some poor lifestyle choices. But, I just feel too zonked to write it.
DeleteDan,Assuming you don't have a current diagnosis, consider having your physician order a blood panel ( CBC) which will mark out most of the areas that might be causing the fatigue. As we age, it might be something as simple as not enough quality sleep - and skipping the alcohol for a week or two can make a big difference . And yes, DD can help some situations, mostly as a prophylactic but also a curative

Thanks, Alan. I've had a bunch of different tests run over the years to try to get to the bottom of it. Everything always came back normal, except that when I'm having a flare my white blood cell count seems to drop. Several years ago, an infectious disease doctor diagnosed it as an Epstein-Barr infection. At the time, that was a very controversial diagnosis, with most doctors rejecting the idea that "recurring mono" could be a thing. It now seems to be much less controversial, with many thinking CFS, and MS, are both caused by Epstein-Barr or a similar virus.
DeleteIf the drop in WBC IS NOT a consistent downward trend, it could be something intermittently stressing your immune system. It might be worthwhile to consult a hematologist.
DeleteYeah, it's not a downward trend, though my white count is always on the low side. It's within normal range, but almost always at the very bottom of normal. The only time it dips below that is when I'm having a flare of this particular illness.
DeleteYes, something is stressing your immune system. It may be nothing more than a pesky virus hanging around. But I would consult a hematologist to get an opinion

Sometimes the meds you take regularly can be part of it. Any anemia ? JR
ReplyDeleteNo anemia. I get lucky that, despite these flares of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, in my late 50s there aren't any medications I have to take regularly.
